UPDATE
Recently I’ve been experiencing hip pain. It is a familiar pain that has kept me from activity in the past and I’m working through it. Five weeks in to treatment I feel much better. More on that later.
This specific pain, this familiar and recurring pain, reminded me why I started to study breath and bodywork to begin with. I felt deeply that movement was the medicine. Always. Dealing with my pelvic floor dysfunction and hip pain in the past is what inspired me to learn more. I became a breathwork facilitator when the practiced helped me back to pain-free living two years ago. As I deepened my study into healing processes, I knew I wanted to learn the body, and it’s systems intimately, to better understand how the parts of our body (anatomy: from the Latin ana, to cut, and tomia, pieces or to cut into pieces) work in relationship to create the whole (somatic: from the Greek soma, of the whole body). I was led to school, where I am currently studying. My studies in anatomy have informed my process and practices, and deepened my understanding of somatics.
As I deal with this new round of pain, I recall to all the reasons that led me down this path in the first place: somatics. The connection to the body. The mind body connection. The energy of the body as a whole. I remember my goal to create methods of movement, breath and energy to promote healing. So, that’s what I’m currently working on. I’ve stepped back from hands on healing to reorient my direction, revisit my training in somatic therapy, and apply it to my newfound knowledge. Energy work will always be a part of my processes and practices but I am not accepting new clients.
I feel wholly renewed in my purpose and I’m so excited to share with you soon.
